One approach to treating infertility is called intrauterine insemination (IUI), which involves injecting sperm into a woman's uterus to promote conception. The basic goal of IUI is to increase the quantity of sperm that enters the fallopian tubes, which will raise the likelihood of conception. By giving the sperm a head start, this treatment gives it an edge, but the sperm still needs to go to the egg and fertilise it on its own. When compared to IVF, this approach is less expensive and invasive. Most couples with unexplained fertility, male factor infertility, such as low sperm count or poor sperm motility, or those using donor sperm are advised to undergo IUI treatment. The removal of prostaglandins, pathogenic agents, antigenic proteins, non-motile spermatozoa, immature germ cells, and other contaminants during washing operations improves the quality of sperm. Also, this improves sperm quality by reducing the production of free oxygen radicals following sperm preparation.
